I was recently asked to trial cardio fitness app Aaptiv for 2 weeks. Aaptiv aims to replicate the experience of doing a group exercise class or having a personal trainer without the expense. You can choose from a range of workouts, including treadmill or outdoor running, HIIT, abs workouts, and prenatal and pram workouts.

There are so many to choose from and you can search based on fitness level, time, type and more. Once you’ve chosen a workout and hit play, a personal trainer guides you through your workout, accompanied by music.

I tried a few workouts during my free trial and found 2 I particularly liked – a HIIT and a treadmill workout. The HIIT was great because it gave me a solid workout and having the trainer in my ear surprisingly pushed me a lot. I loved the treadmill workout because the trainer gave options to increase the difficulty and shared helpful tips along the way that helped me improve my form.

I didn’t try any of the pre- or post-natal workouts however the pre-natal ones were comprehensive, being split by trimester and week of pregnancy, easily giving you a simple program to follow. Each week includes both strength and cardio exercises specifically designed to prepare a woman’s body for birth.  The Aaptiv maternity program was designed by Kira Kohrherr of FitBump, yoga guru and author, Kristin McGee, and expert Aaptiv trainers who are trained and certified in pre- and post-natal exercise. I wish this was around when I was pregnant with Lola!

I think this app is great for anyone who doesn’t have the time and/or money to get to the gym, but isn’t great at pushing themselves when working out. If you would like to try a one-week free trial of Aaptiv, you can enter your details here https://aaptiv.com/signup
